update: this doesn't work anymore. great work dte, i guess!
dte energy can be unreliable at times. they have a status checker at https://outage.dteenergy.com/status, which can be used to check whether or not your power is out, and how long it will take to come back. if you don't know your address, for whatever reason (???), you can also look up your outage status using your phone number on the page. helpfully, if you take this approach, dte will anonymize your street address, showing only the street number, but not the street name in the details page. unfortunately, this censorship done client side, so anyone savvy is still able to see the full service address when loading this page. or, of course, when hitting their api directly. as a result, given someone in southeast michigan's phone number, you can often get access to their street address! the endpoint is located at: https://api.customer.sites.dteenergy.com/public/local/prod/sites?phone=xxxxxxxxxx you can also click this button, which does not store any information about you, for a demo. then, kindly ask dte to fix their shit!
